Default ac getting worse....

a month or so ago i complained about my ac, was on 2 for fan to get cool, now on three, so i knew i was losing freon but from where, called a friend came over with his guages and a tank of r134a , he evacuated the system and put a vacuum on it, then refilled the system, nice and cool now, and lo and behold the low pressure valve (shrader valve was leaking) go figure. a cheap fix and not a compressor replace..

Nice!
I took mine to a shop because I wasn't experienced with AC beyond adding some refrigerant here and there.
It cost me around $175 to replace the schrader valves . I probably could have figured that out with a little soapy water.
To be fair he did check, vacuum, and charge it with dye. It worked for a day.
Then I figured out the compressor was leaking so I changed everything out for new.
I researched a little, bought the the parts and more importantly the right tools. I did the job on a Saturday and let it sit in a vacuum overnight charging the next morning.
I did it for ~$180 in tools and $575 in parts/supplies including a new water pump and t-stat.

Glad you were able to get it fixed without spending an arm and a leg.

Sounds like you did avoid an expensive repair. I also had to change my whole system as the compressor was leaking.

A single stage vacuum pump.
Funny things come up when you type vacuum pump in amazon when at work.

Let it run for an hour or so then closed everything up with the gauges still attached. Let it sit overnight and make sure the gauges don't move at all.
Before you do all this you need to test the gauges and fittings first to make sure they are air tight. I let my gauges sit overnight with a vacuum to test.
