Default Unknown Oil leak with pics

Well a few days back when I replaced one of my spark plug wires I noticed an odd smell as if it was rubber or clutch dust smell.

Jacked up the car tonight at 1030pm and I spot some sort of oil leak on the exhaust on the drivers side and cant tell where it's leaking from yet. It's late and the car was too hot to even touch anything so I will check in the morning.

Its hard to verify the color of the oil but I suspect it's motor oil.

Btw I thought it was the clutch that was burning but it's gripping pretty good any I did some pulls to rule out slippage etc. I did check the clutch reservoir and it's clean and full.

Big thanks to @nayt83 on IG for some advice

Any thoughts?

It almost appears to be leaking from your oil filter based on the splatter onto the bell housing/exhaust. It looks like it’s running down the filter and blowing backward when you drive. The first thing is so is check to make sure your oil filter is tight. Doesn’t appear to be a leak that’ll be too hard to figure out or fix. Worst case scenario would be the oil pan gasket.

If it is the filter, it most likely will only leak under pressure/while it’s running. You could clean the area really well with brake cleaner and run the car with it up in the air so you can get underneath to watch. (Use jackstands and wheel stops!) I’d bet it’ll be obvious as to where the oil is coming from if that’s the case.

Clean everything really well and run the engine on the jack stands. See if the leak appears while the car is stationary. Then take the car for a short drive and then take another look. Hopefully that will allow you to pin point the source.

About to work on it now before I have to go to work, just odd it didn't smell like motor oil burning. Had a funny rubber smell

Well, cant say yet if it's fixed but the oil filter was loose a bit. I hand thread these on just not sure how it started to back out. Its been almost 2 month since last oil change and just noticing this.

Will need to run the car to see if it's the culprit.

Sure will be nice if it’s that simple!

Seems like it is the filter, but I forgot to check the valve covers for leaks.

Have to retest tonight, just don't have much time to do some pulls but the smell somewhat gone away and I think it just burn off now. Will report tonight with more results.

Well I declare this a victory! The oil filter had loosen itself enough to cause a tiny leak.

All I see on the exhaust is the left over oil to burn off.and that's what I was smelling last night. I will still continue to keep an eye on this even after I swap the filter.

Already ordered the oil as I am due to a change. Here is the last pic and you can see around the top rim on the filter that shiny oil.
