I am thinking of hand porting a set of 5.3L heads. I did a search, but did not turn up too much. Anyone know where you can pick up bare heads cheap? Any input would be appreciated.
:chevy
Stock, the 5.3's flow like stock LS1's, but give more compression on a 5.7. The MMS Stage II X heads are based on the 5.3's, but milled for more compression (11.2-11.4:1). I love the results I have gotten with mine.
We use the 5.3 casting for our CNC ported heads on N/A vehicles. We use the 5.7 on supercharged vehicles. The 5.3 is a great head. You need to open the chamber to unshroud the valves , particularly when going to a 2.02 intake.
Check the recent thread by C5Noir. He and I are both getting ready to install our TEA 5.3L stage 2 heads. TEA produces some excellent flow #'s and builds the heads to be on the money the first time around.
