I'll be installing FLP's within a couple weeks. Should I change out some other stock parts while I'm at it? I see that many people change spark plugs and wires, why? I have 8500 miles on the car, will the headers cause faster deterioration of the wires? What benefits are there to getting new plugs at this time?
Rapid-- AT your mileage, changing the plugs and wires would be a waste of $. Save the $ towards the next mod or invest in some sort of cool air intake system. Much more bang for the buck spent.
I'm not sure if its the same with FLP's, but when I put on my TPIS LT's it was recommended that I change the plug wires or add cool socks (apparently headers will burn your stock wires). I chose to go with MSD wires because they looked better then the cool socks.
I was running Magnecore's when I installed the FLP's. The Magnecore's are shaped just like the stockers and the boot on the spark plug, even with the stock heat shield on, was touching on a few of the headers. I switched to Taylor Thundervolt 10.4 mm wires and Taylor Fire Sleeves.
RT - I will also be installing FLP's this weekend, if UPS shows up Friday. I was going to remove and reinstall the stock plugs because of the risk of breaking them during the header install. A number of forum members have reported misfires after a header install and ultimately traced it to a cracked plug. As long as I am removing the plugs, I figured I might as well try NGK iridiums even though the stocks only have 6900 mi. After reading all the threads on fried plug wires, I decided to follow Patches' advice and put on Taylor Thundervolts with Taylor fiberglass sleeves.
Are you installing O2 sims? I will try it with the HO2S and install the sims if I get any codes. FLP's seem to be very popular and receive rave reviews from most buyers. Good luck with your install.
