My 2000 c5 starter motor keeps running sometimes after starting the car even with the ignition switch off. if I stop down on gas pedal it sometimes stops. Had it at the GM dealership for 6 days they can't find the problem. Please help!
Did the dealership change the starter? It sounds to me like the solenoid is sticking. That or the starter gear is potentially out of alignment with the flywheel causing it to bind/not disengage. But I assume it’s the original starter and it worked well for a long time, so alignment probably isn’t the issue.
In my opinion, the simplest next step would be to replace the starter. That is assuming the dealership checked the power/ground connections and relay since that would be step 1.
I told them from day one I wanted to replace starter and they talked me out of it said they didn't think it was that. It only did it one time for them in the 6days it was there and they charged me $700.00 and gave up. I brought it home on thursday and it did it 3 times that day. Took it to a car show yesterday and it sat all day and when I left it did it. I am going to have to take it somewhere else and get the starter replaced. Even if that doesn't do it I will have a new starter for my money instead of the $700.00 I spent and got nothing.

Yeah, that’s a bummer the dealership rung you out of $700 and did nothing, essentially. A starter change is a pretty simple job, especially if you have the stock exhaust manifolds still. I don’t see why a shop would charge you more then a couple hours labor for the job.
I do suggest you upgrade to a starter with two full length mounting bolts while you’re getting it changed. The OEM design with one short and one long bolt is notorious for fracturing the block if it ever gets over torqued when starting. To spare some time, do a quick forum search. There are tons of forums explaining the issue in more detail. Most aftermarket starters come with the “revised” two long mounting bolts anyway, because of the known design issue. But it’s good to be informed so you can make sure whatever shop you take it to gets the right starter.
Good luck with the fix. Keep the thread updated on whether a new starter solves your problem.
I should mention I had a aftermarket stereo system installed a month ago and the GM dealer is hanging their hat on thats the problem I had it installed by the top audio shop in my area I went back to them and they said the dealer is full of sh#t. They said they have done a lot of these in corvettes and never had any issues.

The sound system is causing the starter to stick on.... oh come on. That’s one of the most ridiculous diagnosis/excuses I’ve ever heard. I’d never go back to that dealership, ever.
Did they have their 16 year old car wash boy do the diagnosis?

biggest reason for starter to stay engaged is the starter drive sticking to the flywheel gears(not enough clearance, rusty ???), as long as the drive is extended the starter will continue to turn !!!
