Default Front-mount oil cooler hose length?

Howdy,

I'm in the last stages of figuring out my components for a front-mount oil cooler setup. I've measured some stuff and seen other builds, but would love a sanity check from anyone who's done this or seen it done, for the oil lines. I'm having ImprovedRacing do the line assembly for me, because they're great, and I'd love to make sure my lines fit.

(They don't have the figures on hand for the right length.)

I'm planning on using their MHX-245, roughly behind the license plate area. Gonna cut that out for airflow etc. Seems to be enough space.

I made some measurements using heater hose and got somewhere in the 6 foot range, maybe 6.5. Can anyone confirm these figures or share their own? If you've put a much smaller cooler there (the MHX-245 is 21.20" long), please share that as well so I can compensate.

(I have a dewitts rad, which is thicker than the standard + intercooler + I'm keeping the AC condenser + I'm about to put a Callaway Honker in the standard area where one would usually mount an oil cooler, so I'm going for a front-mount setup instead.)

A way to figure this out is to mock up the lines on the routing you plan to use. I used 1/2 inch heater hose and simulated the end connections with common hardware store pipe fittings. As I recall Improved Racing will make whatever you need, but account for the length of the fittings required at the end connections in your measurement of the mocked up line and add a few inches so that you don't end up short. Think of places you can accumulate slack if the lines end up a little long.

I think you should run the simulated lines to and from where the actual lines will go, make sure there is clearance and plan for heat protection where either of them go close to hot things like exhaust manifolds. Also plan for any supports, hangars or abrasion protection of other fluid carrying lines..

If you are planning to use stainless steel braided lines, keep in mind that the stainless steel braiding can be quite abrasive on things it rubs on or vibrates against, like power steering hoses or coolant hoses.

Yeah, I mocked stuff up ... sorta. I didn't pull the nose to get it done proper. I was just hoping good 'nuff and estimated. TBH I'm having the stuff installed soon and I have zero mental energy to muck around with the car right now, so ... corners are cut.

I'm gonna use IR's BMRS+Firehose prefab setup. No chafe!

Edit: I went with 6.5 foot lengths. I will update how that goes.

I found this thread and noticed I never filled in the details. I did in this other thread:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-today-2.html

The answer is 6.5 feet (x2) for the hoses to mount in the center behind the front bumper lic plate.
