I was told that whenever you install a double din stereo receiver in a C5 Corvette it causes the Heads Up Display to quit working. Is this true? I have looked everywhere on this forum and the internet and have yet to find the answer. I would appreciate anyone's help on finding out the truth. Thanks Robert
Not true. Have upgraded multiple C5's to aftermarket radios. The HUD still works.
Now on a C6 there is integration with the factory NAV radio for navigation directions to show in the HUD. The C5 does not have this.
Gary,
Thank you very much. I have been wanting to get one but the vendor I talked to said it would delete my HUD. Not mentioning any names but I did specify mine was a C5. Thanks again and now I can go ahead with my plans. Robert
Yeah, my HUD still worked when I had my 03 vert done.
The only thing I didn't like was the power antenna stayed up all the time.
I had to do the antenna bypass with a switch to fix that.
HUD is independent from the radio on a C5. Power antenna operation depends on what aftermarket radio you install. Some radios have a single output that is used to turn on an aftermarket amplifier and also for power antenna activation, while some radios have separate outputs for amplifier turn-on and power antenna activation. If you have only one output wire on the aftermarket radio (usually blue, but may be another color), you can always just hide a switch to keep the antenna down. If you install an amplifier also, just make sure the switch is wired so that it doesn't turn the amp off when you want the antenna down.
