Default Bleeder screw issue

Hi guys, I found out that one of the front bleeder screws on my C5 Z06 was rounded so I couldn’t open it using regular 6 point socket. Here’s my question, How hard is it to change the bleeder screw? If I get a special socket to remove rounded screws and remove the rounded bleeder screw will the brake fluid gush out if the system is not pressurized? I’m thinking that since the bleeder screw is at the top of the front caliper if I take the bleeder screw out and replace it with a new one not too much break fluid should come out. I can probably connect it to a hose and reservoir until no brake fluid come out before changing the bleeder screw.

Thanks guys.

Youre overthinking this. Vise grips and take it out. Screw the new one in. Just did this on my Duramax. The little bit of fluid that you loose wont hurt a thing. Wont even have to top off the Master Cylinder.

Right. I just replaced all four of mine with speed bleeders. Used a paper towel to absorb any drips.

Btw, speed bleeders are awesome.

Just a word of caution - bleeder screws sometimes break off when they become difficult to remove. If that happens, the easiest fix is to buy a new caliper. Just be prepared for the worst and go for the vise grips as stated above.

Thanks guys..I might be overthinking this a bit lol...I thought about using a vise grip but I didn't have a needle nose vise grip and I didn't think there was enough room for my regular vise grip. Speaking about speed bleeder, how do I know if my C5 Z06 came with one or just a regular bleeder? Also, what are the advantages of a speed bleeder?

If stock, definitely a regular bleeder. Speed bleeders are aftermarket.

Speed bleeder is a check valve in the bleeder so bleeding becomes a one man hassle free job. Put tubing on the bleeder, crack it open and slowly pump the brakes until clear fluid comes out, no air bubbles. Tighten and enjoy rock hard brakes!

i just changed to speed bleeders and flushed my brake fluid this weekend. Took about an hour. Now my 19 yr old original brakes feel like new.
