It’s an auto dealer had it in for service and did something they won’t say exactly but now third and fourth are gone they said they are going to replace it they just don’t have the special tools required right now to do it.
To swap the transmission out? Mostly straightforward stuff. Unbolt this, support that, lower it out gently.
To put stuff back in, you may need alignment and guide tools. They often ship with the parts. Though if they're not taking off the flex plate, I am not sure if any other alignment tools are required -- perhaps for the torque converter. If they say special tools, my guess is alignment or guide stuff, but I have a manual so someone else will need to correct me
Good call on replacing the trans - very few local shops can do a proper automatic transmission rebuild in my experience ...

If they won't say what happened they were probably out beating on your car. At least they are going to make it right. That is the main reason I won't leave my car anywhere, I don't trust anyone, to have respect for other peoples property.
The "tool" they are lacking is probably skill and knowledge.
ABSOFRIGGENLOOTLY! LOL!!
Special tools????????????? Hell, I've done it on jack stands in my garage. No special tools that
I know of or used.
If you do it by the shop manual, they want you to drop the entire drive train out of the car. NOT ANY NEED TO DO THIS but, its how the service manual does it.
