Default Hello All

Hey guys,
I've got an 04 c5,lowered,wide body kit,no other upgraded suspension parts that I know of.
The motor has a Texas Speed cam, with,I believe 243 heads, long tube headers going straight back.
The guy I bought the car from has been very tight lipped about motor.
Car currently stutters at idle, will run,but surges and acts like it wants to shut down.
Is it as simple as getting a custom tune,or?
I'm clueless about this.
ANY help is appreciated, how much this would cost, where do I go,what do I look for in a tuner,etc.etc.

unless there is an obvious mechanical issue, the tune is the place to start...

Agreed the tune is the place to start. Go check out some of your local speed shops or local Vette clubs and see who they use or recommend as their tuner. Most likely won't be cheap but you don't want cheap anyway when it comes to that. Don't go looking for a guy standing on the street corner with his skirt pulled up and his leg exposed with a laptop....

I only stand out there on the weekends, so screw you for judging me!

On the serious side, start by going down the old school roads of air, spark, and fuel first. Verify your MAF and Throttle Body is clean by simply cleaning them with the appropriate cleaners. Check your air filter to see if it needs replaced. Next, do you need plugs and wires? And are your coil packs ok (most likely they are fine)? Then, make sure your fuel isn't old, your injectors don't have a gazillion miles on them, and maybe run some techron through the system to see if it helps. The only other things I would think about are maybe throttle positioning sensors and checking codes. As long as your motor is sans any weird noises from the valve train I bet it's a simple fix one way or another.

If all that is good to go, then you probably just have a **** tune and it needs some love from a reputable dyno tuner. A ton of people throw in a cam and try to live with a mail order tune. It's a band aid, and a crappy one at best. Here is a thread regarding tuners in your area.

Go to a pro. Consider it mandatory if you don't want to grenade your motor. I re-read your first post, and it honestly describes to the letter a car that has a cam installed and hasn't been tuned! If the seller didn't tell you who tuned it, then it probably wasn't tuned. That information is kind of the first thing thrown out there by sellers, as it should be.

That's what I've thought all along.
I don't think previous owner had any tune at all.
I'll do some more research on tuner/links ya all gave me and head that way.
Thanks Everyone!!!

Find the best tuner available. Don't cheap out on this. You said the seller was "tight lipped" about the motor. That would make me nervous as hell! Sure do hope this all works out for you. Best wishes and good luck!

The motor is solid.
He was tight lipped due to smog issues.
Thank you...
