So while i was driving today my car wouldn't come out of 4th?? I pulled over cut the car off and it goes to neutral but that's it only back to 4th so i limped it home in 4th... how bad am i screwed?
Start with the simple stuff first. Check to make sure you have clutch fluid. Check for leaks at the back of the engine (slave cylinder), then look under the master cylinder on the fire wall in the engine bay and carpet in footwell (master cylinder leak). You could also check the shifter linkage.
I am not sure, it may not throw a code if the cags is bad. You might want to try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and see if that may reset it. Just something to try.

Ok i called my local speed shop and he said he's worked on a few vettes for this same issue. Said something about the keys and don't be trying to force it just bring it to him with 2 grand and he would have to take apart tranny and fix it smh said its a costly job and i should replace the clutch as well
I would replace everything while you have it apart, torque tube bearings and couplers, clutch, rear diff mount, and check the rear end for bellville washers and clutches. If you are paying for labor then do it all, so you are only paying once. even if you take it apart yourself do it all so you only have to do it once, it is a big job. I did mine by myself on jack stands, with no help, and I don't know crap about cars and it was an experience for sure. I didn't do the torque tube bearings because they were fine and I didn't have a press but I replaced the couplers. I tore apart the rear end and replaced the bellville washers. If you tear it apart yourself and take the trans in for the rebuild it will save you a bunch of cash. these cars come apart pretty easy with mostly basic hand tools. You can find all the info you need to do it, just google it and do the research.

Thank you for the input i will def pass this on to my mechanic! I wish i could do it myself but i don't have a garage and my driveway isn't level at all and with 4 kids i can't have a car outside sitting on jack stands lol I'd be a nervous wreck
IF,, It were me, I would examine the shifter and shift box. Make sure that the shift box is properly installed, doesn't have any loose fasteners holding it to the TT and the four fasteners that secure the shifter to the lower box are tight. Theres a YOKE SHAFT in the shift box, make sure that the shaft isn't loose in the front or rear lower box bushing. You can also check the PINCH JOINT that connects the shift rod to the box and make sure that its tight and the shift rod and the shifter are properly connected and doesn't have slop.
Hell, its pretty simple and may save you a TON of cash.
The mechanic needs to take that stuff off any way if he has to fix the transmission. If its a box or a shift rod issue,, it will save you all that time and cash.
Let us know what you decide to do and if you find anything out of the norm.
Got the car fixed (sry been so long we have been moving) lol I took it to mechanic and Figured since he was in there I might as well have him replace my balancer because I could see it starting to wobble AND figured since he has that out I might as well do a cam upgrade lol so 4600 dollars later I have the tranny issue fixed (new shift fork and keys) and a power bond balancer and BTR stage 3 cam 😊 I had a whole list of parts he replaced (lifters, rockers, torque tube bushings etc.) but apparently my wife has thrown it away smh but with a good dyno tune she’s putting down 403rwhp and sounds pretty mean lol I’m pretty happy thank again guys for your input!!
Thanks for the update. I always look forward to hearing the end result. I have an 03 Z06, so I always like it when users post the final fix. This stuff may happen to mine somewhere down the road. Once again Thanks
