OK guys, I finally bought a can of PB Blaster, took the 'covers' off my '99 C5 headlights and was prepared to lube the crud out of the adjustment screws before trying to turn them. BUT wait, there's more!! How the dickens is one supposed to lube those screws and their attendant plastic fitments without taking the whole assembly out of the car?!?! There is no way I can see to thoroughly lubricate those adjustment assemblies while they are installed. One can spray all over (somewhat like spray & pray) but that's just not in my genes. Any helpful thoughts? Thank you!

There is a plastic piece that screws over a steel adjustment bolt. You pretty much must disassemble the adjusters and clean up that thread inside the plastic before you'll get it to work. The plastic nut can be very stuck onto the bolt and difficult to get off with it disassembled - no chance it'll ever unscrew without disassembly when stuck that tightly. Dirt in
side the plastic adjuster case also helps bind the things up. Those "golden rods" are very easy to break.
So the headlight assembly needs to be removed and disassembled to lube the rods so that one can reassemble and reinstall the assemblies in order to adjust the headlights, lionelhutz? Not what I was hoping or expected to hear!!!
I took mine apart and the screw is basically welded to the plastic piece. I used Lubriplate on it when I finally freed it from the
plastic adjuster. It will take time but worth it otherwise you will break the Golden Rod.
It's not that hard to remove the entire headlight assembly and then you can really lube the adjusters and see how they work.
How many times are you going to do this in your life?
Thanks, I agree! Any help in how the headlight assemblies come out? Seems like there are bolts on the back as well on one side? Four in each place perhaps?
The Golden Rod adjuster can be taken apart and lubed but the short one is a bitch. I broke it and had to call Mark at Vettenuts to send
a used one that was perfect just lubed it and installed. It's not that hard I've had those lights apart many times for gear replacements and
installing C54eyes.........
