Default Exhaust or headers?

I have a 02 z06 and I want more loud, but without sacrificing performance. I heard that it’s better to keep the stock titanium exhaust and get longtube headers. Somebody is selling a billy boat b&b exhaust I was thinking of buying but should I just go the stock exhaust route and get LT headers? I don’t want to be crazy loud , but just louder than I am now . Currently bone stock got the car a week ago . Thanks!

I had a stock car with just billy boat bullets, and it was stupid loud. Don’t get me wrong it sounded good, nice and deep with some nice pops off of acceleration. But the drone was so bad I would have to wear ear plugs when going on long rides. I put headers in and it got even worse. I swapped for a corsa sport and it sounds perfect in my opinion. If I were you I would do the headers. It’ll give you some sound for sure and some nice performance gains.

Get a Corsa exhaust. It's loud under acceleration, but quiet at Cruise with no drone. I even did a heads/cam after and still no drone. I've had mine for 17 years.

Long term: with performance aside, are you trying to build your car or just change the sound?

Longtubes, catless x pipe, stock Ti catback and a tune. Careful about systems and drone...no fun.

Loud is cool, but faster is better.

Swapping catbacks gains you nothing. LT's yield around 20-30hp AND give you more noise.

My 04 Z06 has stock longblock, Melrose LT headers, high flow cats, and a corsa (not sure which #). Best sounding exhaust system I've ever had in my 40+ cars. At idle it has a noticeable tone but its mellow and doesn't upset anybody. Cruising is nice and freeway w/cruise control on is hardly audible. Put your foot down and HOLY COW does it come alive!

I bought the car like this so I'm ok and won't change it. I am curious how it would have sounded w/the stock Titanium aftercat.

My suggestion would be to drive the car as is for awhile to see how everything shakes out (more than a week). You may find that the car is good the way it is. If still not to your liking after a couple of months, go for the long tube headers and tune route.

There is a modification that you can do to your Stock OEM Ti Mufflers that wakes up the sound. Its the TI Bypass Mod. You weld in one pipe between the muffler inlet and one of the muffler pipes and it suppose to sound a LOT better without drone on the stock Ti muffler.

You have to find a shop that is set up to weld Ti because it is a lot different than normal steel. Then you also need to get the correct size Ti tubing.
