I am thinking of putting on the intake from MidAmerica on my 99 and wondering if I do will I have to upgrade the throttle body, powerduct, vortex or will the size where they connect remain the same?????
Anyone do this mod? opinion of it/ease of install/performance gains?
I bought mine form LMperformance.com for $389. It is the SAME exact thing as the Mid America one. The intake is worth about 9 rear wheel horsepower on a lightly modded c5. That's what it make on my car. At the flywheel 9 hp is about 11. I think it is a good buy and a realistic purchase if you've run out of other mods and plan on eventually buying heads and a cam.
An adaptor is needed for a 99 (up to 2000 C5s) to go from an LS1 intake to an LS6. It is a piping adaptor consisting of a coolant tube and 2 plugs to replace the coolant tube that run under the old intake. You can purchase this OR you can dremel the bottom of the LS6 intake to make it accomodate the old piping.
I bought the SLP kit from SLP. It came withe the coolant pipe to work on the 99. We also did a before and after dyno pull and picked up 19 rwhp with o learn time so it was pretty lean< I think this is a grat mod! :)
Hey thanks for the link......is an adapter needed for a 99? Also why an additional coolant pipe? Planning on doing install yourself?
Thanks for any input
Marc
No, acutally I'm planning to take to car to LGM to have heads installed. The reason I mentioned the extra line is so you don't have to use any plugs. This way you get the same amount of coolant flow through your engine as it was before the upgrade...
Yep.. :yesnod: Or you can do what c5Chris said and dremel out the new intake so it fits over the stock coolant line. I would opt for the new lines, personally..
88894339 2001-2003 Ls6 intake/ includes intake manifold seal and gaskets, throttle body seal, map sensor, map sensor seal.
While gmparts direct has attractive prices, they often more than make up for it on the shipping and handling. In this particular case they want $73.92 for the S&H when the true shipping cost is about $15.
They are exactly the same part. You can't port the intake becasue it's made out of plastic and you would probably melt it. I posted another topic on this about how much I made from this mod. It was 10hp at the rear wheels, or about 12 at the flywheel. Take a look because it's still on the first page.
I know a GM tech at the local Chevy dealership and he swapped it for me in 1 hour. I payed him $40. :D I watched him do it and I think it would be easy to do. I don't know where you live, but I would call around to the various performace shops and see what the cost would be or do a search on the forum here for memebers in your area and see if any of them have done the swap themselves. I used one coolant pipe and blocked off the rear two things. The web site that I bought it from (www.lmperformace.com/1777/4.html) came with everything that I needed for the install including directions. Cut and paste the above website address and it will take you directly to the intake. Good Luck.
Is it bad for the motor to change the intake and block off some of the coolant????? I know members get an additional coolant pipe....if this is done does the intake have to be dremeled????
I just called SLP and they want $179 for install.....I think that its over priced......any forum members in NJ do this install????
