Just lube the shaft...gotta do mine every year or so.
The manual does not recommend lubing the shaft. It attracts dirt. It is recommended to keep it clean and dry. I had the same problem as the OP. Tried lubing the mast, but the teeth were worn out. A new mast fixed the problem, cost 12 bucks and has lasted 5 years now.
I have one that works that i just took out. I would be willing to sell it. PM me if you want it. It worked just fine when i took it off about a month ago.
Yea Jamie it will not go all the way down... tried all the tricks I know..............................Byron
I am more than willing to refund your money if you aren't satisfied. It was working fine when I removed it.I even tried it with a battery before I shipped it.I wouldn't want to buy a defective part and I definitely don't want to sell one.
Just bought one on eBay after breaking the factory mast off last weekend. Search for "C5 replacement antenna mast" - total cost was around $25 shipped.

when I looked online the shorty antenna said they will not replace the power antenna?
Yeap I installed that one too. The shorty antenna was too short and hardly pickup any radio signal. Got a 18 worked a little better. Might try and find a little longer one. My power antenna mast has been replaced 4 times. Everytime a piece break off inside and I have to take the whole power assembly out and a part to fix it. No more. Last time it did not go down someone made it into a pretzel,
Why can’t I install a shorty antenna to replace my power antenna? Personally don’t like my power antenna.
You can - I did. You just need to buy a Z06 mount from a yard. The power antenna really dated the car. The shorty is a very high quality from antennamastsrus. Also, in the past when i have replaced power antennas and ribbons, they were the best source. Replacing power masts is easy - even if the ribbon is broken off inside.
Bought the shorty from antennamastsrus for the car and truck and reception is excellent.
Installed the new power antenna mast in less than 5 minutes and works perfectly. I did end up buying one from The Antenna Source (also called AntennaMastsRUs) and returned the one I got on eBay, as I wanted one with a black tip to match the OEM antenna. https://www.theantennasource.com/CHE...98-2004.html#1
