If I drive normal everything seems consistent. But when I get on it and stretch it out a little, or a lot, the clutch pedal feels really weird afterward. It feels like it loses some travel and is real springy. There isn’t any slippage or anything. I have only owned this car for a few months and everything else seems to be fine. Any info or suggestions appreciated.
How old is the clutch fluid- and what color is it? I’d suggest “The Ranger Method” to swap out the fluid.
Get a turkey baster, get a bottle of new fluid, and have an empty bottle available for disposing old fluid. Suck out the old fluid from the reservoir, dump into old bottle, fill reservoir to its full line, replace the cap. Go inside and pump the clutch until leg becomes tired. Go back and repeat above steps until the color of the fluid is that of the new fluid you are adding. DO NOT PUMP clutch without fluid in reservoir. Remove old fluid, fill with new fluid, pump clutch, remove old fluid, fill, pump clutch, repeat as necessary etc...
Once you’ve done this several times- go run the car like before and see if it made a difference. It should, and you’ll want to do this often to keep the fluid clean and clutch responsive.
I have done that. I did that with the brakes and the clutch. First thing I did when I got the car was replace all fluids. The slave cylinder was definitely black, I sucked it out and cleaned inside the reservoir. Didn’t change much, maybe a little, made me feel better though. I didn’t pump clutch without fluid in there.
