I have a 2000 base convertible that blew out a front metal brake line during an emergency stop. The car stopped and ABS came on as normal. I drove the car a short distance to get it to a safe area, then got it towed home. We replaced the 2 front metal lines that come out of the ECBM and bled it out. The pedal is nice and firm, car stops straight. Problem is that now the "Service active handling" and "Service vehicle soon" messages are displayed along with the yellow traction control off light. Just before the service lights come on, the ABS brakes come on and jerk the car around . I don't seem to have any current codes except the TPMS code because I don't have any installed on the tires.
Here's what I have:
BO-RFA : C2120 H C , U1016 H, U1064 H, U1096 H
A1-RDCM: B2285 H
AO-LDCM: B2284 H
28-TCS: C1287 H, C1281
When that line blew, I assume it drained the entire system or, at minimum, that leg of the system. When you bled everything after fixing, did you use a scanner/computer to manually cycle and bleed the ABS block/pump? Simply gravity feeding won’t get air out of the block/pump. It sounds to me like you have air in the system still.

I simply bled it and didn't cycle the pump. Is there a way to do this without a scanner?

I believe you need a Tech 2 scanner to do it and that’s the only way, unfortunately. There may be a way to “hot wire” the pump, but I’m not well versed enough with the system to suggest how that could be done.
The steering sensor rate malfunction C1287 is what is causing your issue. The EBTCM thinks that you have some LEFT or RIGHT steering input but the lateral accelerometer is telling the EBTCM that the car is still going straight!
That's a conflict and that is what is causing the EBTCM to apply the brakes.
How is your alignment?? That can cause the same issue. If the steering wheel isn't dead nuts straight when the car is going straight, the same thing can happen.
just has the 1287 with the same symptoms. I had the car aligned first. That didn’t fix the issue. Has to have the sensor replaced. Might want to go down there on the floor board and make sure your sensor is plugged in correctly. I’ve heard some people have had luck with doing that.
Well, got a chance to look over the car in more detail. When I replaced the brake lines,I had to move the fans to access the rails to secure the new brake lines. I found that the clamp to the EBCM was unlocked. I wiggled it and secured it. I also checked the connectors to the Mass air and throttle body, also removed to gain access. I test drove it but same conditions occurred. I ordered a Foxwell NT650 that is supposed to work on Bosch 5.3 systems to bleed the brakes and it also is supposed to check steering wheel position sensors. I'll let you guys know what I find and if it actually works.
Sorry for the late follow up. I ran a scan with the new tool and bled out the brakes. Condition the same. A few weeks later, I got the car on a lift and discovered that 2 wires were damaged going to the ECBM. Must have happened when installing the brake line. Anyway, I repaired the damaged wires and now all is good. Thanks for everyone's help. Ready for some great Fall top down cruising!!
