I have an 04 Z06- the shocks are way better than the early Z shocks my 2001 Z had. That said, a lot of guys went with C6 Z06 shocks and have been very happy.

You could always spend more and get some DRM valved Bilstein’s - it all depends on what you want to do with the car.

Did the upgrade with C6 Z06 shocks. Very happy with that for normal driving. Car is like on rails 👍

The 06Z shocks are better than the stock and Z51 shocks, also they are not as good at road handling as the 04Z, Bilstein Sport and DRM valved. Unless you are going to do occasional HPDE or autocrossing the 06Z shocks are a good economical upgrade.

Front: 540202
Rear: 540203

About $50 each at RockAuto and elsewhere.

Wow, the prices just keep going down. When I bought my C5, a C6Z shock setup was a bit over $300. Now it's getting to low $200s? Nice.

These are the ones I replaced my 03 Z06 shocks with. I am happy with them.... given the choice between them and 04 Z shocks I’d get the 04’s just because I’ve read a lot of positive feedback on them but the C6Z shocks are worth the money

C6 Z-06 shocks
C6 Z-51 sway bars w/metal end links
Kept the base C5 springs

Excellent street set up, corners flat but still some compliance to smooth out these crappy roads.

There's a set of Bilsteins on the C5 "For Sale", here. I have the DRM's on my '03 and they made a world of difference - no more wheel hop on our beautiful Massachusetts roads....:^)

I went with Bilstein B8's - bought here - they are firm - but I guess that's no surprise being that they are marketed as "for lowered cars" - I'm not lowered - yet....

I just upgraded to the Z shocks and am very happy with the additional firmness they offer. ('01 base model) They are not overly rough and are very inexpensive. I would 100% recommend them.
