Default Chirping sound when cold

What’s up everyone? I just bought a 1999 corvette & it started making a chirping sound around the belt area when I first start it up. The sound goes away when it’s warmed up after 5-10 minutes. The chirp is there at idle & gets worse with acceleration.

My son's Z06 had a belt squeal after replacing his belt with a cheap replacement. Bought a name brand belt and no more squeal.

I was told that the Corvette C5 is prone to chirping with any brand of traditional unidirectional grooved belt. Instead, install a cross-cut or "gator" belt. I bought my "gator" belt from Summit Racing (Goodyear is the manufacturer". Summit's Racing' has contact info on their website, of course.Installing the "gator" belt completely solved the chirping issue on my '98 C5.

I think you will find that there are myriad causes for this. One trick I read was to (carefully) spray WD40 on the idlers and see what happens - in my case it went away when the AC idler was replaced when the compressor was done at the dealer....

Remove the belt and check its condition (ac belt too). If it's good, start checking your pullies, rotating them by hand feeling for one that's loose and/or gritty feeling. Usually you'll instantly know when you've found the problem.

I had to replace one that I couldn't track down until I was doing other work on the car and had the entire front of the motor off. I was inspecting pullies and found an idler pulley that the bearing carrier has broken inside, and the bearings would randomly move together and apart. Sometimes it would chirp and clear up, sometimes it would chirp constantly, sometimes it never chirped. Now it's dead silent because I replaced the sucker.
