I have a 2002 C5 coupe that won't crank. When the key is turned to the START position, everything turns off like normal, but no starter. I get no voltage at the small post of the starter solenoid. But, if I turn the key to ON and touch 12V to the small solenoid post, it cranks right up. I get 12V at the purple wire that the Theft Deterrent Relay energizes when the key is turned to START. So it seems my issue is between the TDR and the starter solenoid. Does anyone know what all is between those two points? Maybe I just have a broke wire?
So, do you think the purple wire starting at A2 simply passes through the underhood fuse block? If so, then I'm about to run me a new wire from A2 all the way to my starter solenoid and just assume that the original wire is broken somewhere.
I'm not sure if that is a connector symbol or what ??...will look at my FSM when I get home...could not find anything in Mitchell which is expected...LOL !!!...I don't think it actually goes to the fuse box and I'll have to check the fuse box pinouts...yeah, if you have power at the TDR pin A2 while cranking but not at the "S" terminal of the starter solenoid it's probably that "connector"...I use a tone generator these days to make quick work of these opens and shorts in wiring !!
Check the ring terminal at the end of the purple wire, maybe the wire itself is broken and the crimp is just holding the wire by the insulation, but most likely the connector on the under hood fuse box.
Thanks for the info!! That's info that I could find nowhere on the internet. I'll have to look under that fuse block very soon and ohm out both wires. Does that seem to indicate that the fuse block is merely a junction for both of those wires? Or, maybe those going hot is a signal for other devices? I'll advise as to what i find.
Thanks so much for the fuse block pics. I got no continuity from F10 to the starter solenoid. So, I picked a safe spot along the purple wire leaving F10 and spliced in a new wire from that point to the starter. Works perfectly now. Not sure what the heck happened to the wire at some point, but it is just abandoned now. Thanks again!!!
