Default Engine Removal

I'm trying to pull my LS6 from the top coming at it from the driver side with the crane.

I hit it hard last night and got what looks like everything off and clear of the block.

Grounds and wires, starter, a/c, harness loom, pulled the headers, lower bellhousing, pan was already off, 6x flywheel/pressure plate bolts, and I believe 5 upper bellhousing bolts (is there another? some of these were a royal pain I am trying to imagine reinstalling with heads on a new block.)

I gave only a half-hearted effort to put some lift on the engine and break it free but no dice at 3am. I had work at 8, so I bailed for bed. I'm wondering if I have one more bellhousing bolt. Possibly. And I may need to drop the crossmember lower.

Any pointers / tips? I usually have had friends over to help with stuff like this but am going at it solo. I was also interested to find that most of the wiring for O2s was about cooked and the headers themselves were never tightened/secured into the mid sections going back.... they were just sort of slid into the rear piping. Oh, the things you find when you buy a car built by several other people first. LOL

I'll check to be sure there isn't a 6th upper bellhousing bolt somewhere. After that, it should just be a matter of busting it loose right?

Though I probably want to get a beam under the clutch/TT end before that. Jack maybe.

It's easier to remove the bolts on the lower section of the bell housing to tt versus upper bolts. The key to separating the engine from tt is putting a floor jack under the tt/bell housing connection while engine is supported by hoist. Put a little pressure on the floor jack under tt/bell housing start lifting hoist and it should separate.

Didn't mention this step in my lessons learned might be some info in my old thread of help if you haven't checked it out.

So you're saying leave the clutch and flywheel connected along with the bellhousing to the block, disconnect the slave cylinder hydraulic line, and unbolt the rear of the bellhousing to the TT.

Does the TT just pull straight out of the clutch?

Here is a photo of the bell housing to maybe help you figure out if you have all the bolts removed. Also, if you are putting some lift on the engine before trying to slide it forward you could be binding the input shaft. Maybe trying putting some lift on the torque tube at the same time as the engine to relieve that tension between the two so they uncouple.

Correct, leave it assembled and pull out as one assembly, here are a few pics of when I was reinstalling my engine. Will slide off the input shaft at pilot bearing connection, then you're good.

So I'm right on it. I'll put two bolts back in the flywheel to keep the clutch from dropping and give it a swing tonight.

The bellhousing having only 5 bolts seems strange to me. I like equilibrium and balance. Lol
