Default High mileage preventative maintenance

Hi C5 Owners

Stepping over from C3 world and looking to add a 2004 manual primarily stock coupe to the coral. It has 125k on the clock and clutch was changed 4K ago at 119k

In addition to harmonic balancer, anything else due to fail that should be swapped out proactively or to keep an eye on?

Thanks, Joe

At that mileage, I'd be surprised if the balancer hasn't already been replaced. You can eyeball it and see if it's an OEM balancer or not. It could have been swapped out even if it is an OEM part but nothing to worry about unless it starts giving you problems. Differential leaks at the rear axles are common but the axle seals should have been replaced when the clutch was done. I wouldn't take that for granted though. Also check the fluid level in the diff - it could be low if the seals are leaking. That's about it except for common wear parts such as ball joints, shocks, idler pulleys and belts. I'd just fix them as needed.

Yeah I wouldn't call that high enough mileage to be truly concerned. If it runs and drives and doesn't have any oil leaks, send it.

These cars aren't as fragile as people think they are. They just like to be driven.

At 125k miles if it has the factory diff listen carefully for whining. They tend to start going bad much sooner than that.

Thanks to all for the insights. If not sold I may see it over the weekend.

The Balancer on my car was just changed out a few weeks ago at about 143k miles. Still original. Course it depends on how you drive them to how they last. Mine developed oil leaks when I started driving it as a daily probably due to the 2nd owner only putting about 4000 miles on it in 3 years. In the 2.5 years I've had it I'm over a 1000 miles a month easy.; So balancer, front and rear seals, front and rear cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets and valve cover gaskets all changed out just a couple weeks ago.
