Default T56 Binding all gears

Recently was going to purchase a C5 Z06 but i went with this project vette instead and i got it at a good price due to the trans.

1/2/3 whines badly

4/5/6/R no issues

yesterday while on a test drive the trans at a low speed locked up. As you start to roll its almost like the ebrake is on....doesnt matter what gear. Reverse too. If you let off the clutch its almost like it just binds. In neutral or clutch all the way in it rolls perfectly fine

i know autos very well but not manuals so any input is appreciated

Just to clarify, currently if your in gear and the clutch is in the car will roll fine?

If you open up a t56 there are two parallel shafts, input and output, with messing gears. Based on what your saying is seems to me that at least one the bearings that keep those shafts aligned with each other is bad. this would allow at least one end of one shaft to shift slightly when torque is applied thus misaligning gears and causing them to bind.

I'm in no way an expert here, this is just what my initial impression would be. If I were you I would yank out the trans an just see what kind of play you have in the input and output shafts and go from there. Ultimately if the gears and shafts are worn and all of the bearings and syncros are shot a rebuilt trans may be the cheapest and easiest fix.

I did purchase a replacement but itll be a couple months before installing it because i would like to get a nice clutch (leaning towards ls7 if not something aftermarket)

If i push the clutch in, no binding car rolls beautifully. If i let the clutch out to start to move itll go a couple feet and start to lockupand fee like a bund and bring me to a dead stop....of course im hearing noises from the shifter area, and flywheel clutch noises. I put about 100 miles on it but it gradually got worse.

i read up on some of that before posting, it mentioned vibration and chatter quite a bit if this was an issues, neither of which i had

clutch squeal
rocks being tossed around in a small area sound (similar to a torque converter coming apart sound)

hard to shift into gear (im leaning towards this being a seperate issue possibly linkage) if not seated it will grind and pop out

i will say i tried to teach my wife how to drive a stick when we first got it, reason being the trans and clutch i knew i would replace so why not teacher on something that doesnt make me cry when she screws up.

She burned the clutch a little bit over the hour long drive but nothing crazy

then the worst of it started showing

Unfortunately, it certainly sounds internal to the transmission. Your clutch job may need to be sooner than expected.

I swapped my clutch last year. Ended up going with a Monster Stage 2 Clutch. I've been very happy with it so far. Make sure you install a remote bleeder and have the torque tube couplings and bearings replaced while its out of the car. Its cheap insurance and if you dont you'll wish you did later.

The remote bleeder is about 50$ and the parts to rebuild the torque tube are about 250$ if i remember correctly.

For sure have to open it up and look, but it could be input shaft, torque tube coupler, clutch related, internal counter shaft, etc...all possibilities. ****** it out of there and open her up.
