Was witnessing some detonation recently after I had my pistons re-ringed to stop oil "blow by," so I took my 2001 MN6 in for service. Dealer told me that I had performance plugs and that GM would not warranty repair the detonation without stock plugs. Ironically, I have had the same plugs on the car before AND after the re-ring service and the car had detonation problems before.
P.S. I have never changed plugs on this car (I ordered the car new from GM), so I am not even sure what the dealer is talking about. Has anyone ever taken shipment of a new Vette with non-factory plugs installed by a dealer?
If you really do have an unmodified car, I'd have used the dealer's telephone and called GM on the spot and said "your representative is refusing warranty service on an as-delivered car" or is there more to this story than that?
Of course, the fact that the dealer is a bit of a idiot, assuming you really do have a stock car, does also suggest that you might want to take your toys and play somewhere else.
It's not the first problem I have had with this dealer. The dealer has clarified though... the non-stock plugs do not void my warranty, but they will not perform the repair under the warranty with non-stock plugs. This is just plain :bs.
What's next... if I don't use Mobil 1 brand synthetic oil will they refuse warranty repairs on the engine either? :mad
However, I am still really perplexed here. I have never changed the plugs in the car (it only has 24k miles). Unfortunately I am on the road (my wife brought the car in for service)... I'll have to look at these non-stock plugs myself. My hunch... when the dealer re-ringed the pistons, they changed the plugs (using an appropriate plug for the application - but not the STOCK plugs). :mad
