Can anyone detail the process of removing the TB on a 99???
I am planning on removing tonight!
Also where the heck can I get a #20 Torx with the hole in the center to get the TB off??? I tried local parts stores....no luck....Sears?? or have to get thru GM?
There are three 10mm bolts holding the throttle body to the manifold. The torx attach the electronics to the throttle body. I suspect it's not wise to remove the electronics, unless you're replacing the TB.
Also, there are two coolant hoses on the bottom, unless you've already bypassed heating the throttle body. There's one vacum line on the top. And of course electrical connectors on the electronics.
The front TB bolts are 10mm.. simple to remove. The coolant lines are easier to remove AFTER you remove the TB mounting bolts. The 20 torx are the security type (that is the hole), and you can get the right tool at most any auto parts place... Don't worry about the electrics, they only go on one way so it is a no brainer...
So the torx are for the electronics? Aything special to know about? or just remove 10 mm bolts, then disconnect coolant, and take off electronics with torx?
Will coolant lines need to be plugged? What about gaskets?
See anything wrong with taking my stock TB out for about a week and leaving car as is in garage while tb gets ported and polished??? (other than not being able to enjoy the car that week :( )
They are called 'tamper proof' torx bits, most auto parts stores carry them. Get a couple 5/16 bolts to plug the coolent lines or a piece of 5/16 steel line, vacuum coupler, whatever and just connect them together while the car is sitting. The rubber o-ring gasket will stay in the intake and can be re-used if not damaged. It can sit forever with the t/b off, just make sure nothing ends up in the intake
