I love the Hurst. Much more natural feeling. 1st... pull straight back with pistol grip into 2nd... push straight up with palm into 3rd... pull straight back into 4th... With the Stock shifter it was always "mutted" and a struggle.
Think you'll find those in each camp who are happy and those who aren't because of noise or added stiffness. Often a new shift **** cures the noise. Experience seems to cure the stiffness issue. I've had a Ripper for a couple years and am completely satisfied with it. It's an easy swap that tightens the feel of the car. Either way, you'll notice a significant improvement.
I'm very happy with the Hurst, but had to have sound insulation installed in the shift lever opening to address the noise problem (a simple, easy and cheap move that any car stereo shop can do well). (I have a hard time believing those who say a different **** solved the noise problem, since I put a lot of attention into the issue and am 100% convinced that it relates to the relative lack of sound insulation in the Hurst configuration.)
The Hurst is "notchier" feeling than the stock shifter by a lot and -- to me -- therefore more precise. It does take a little more effort.

I got my dad the Kirban. Haven't had a chance to install it yet cause the vette got in an accident bout three weeks ago(yes I was driving. No I wasn't hotrodding it. I accidentally rear ended a lady in traffic at about 35mph. It was my first accident. Dad was upset but he understood that stuff happens.) and we haven't gotten it back. We should get it back sometime this week. The reason i got the Kirban is cause the guys at MTI told me that the Hurst and B&M were to stiff side-side and that most people bring them back for the Kirban. I asked about the adjustable springs and he said he had never heard of them. He also said there is not return on installed parts. Maybe I can install it good enough to where if my dad doesn't like it, I can take it out and they won't know. The guy at MTI told me it was the closest I could get to a Pro 5.0 without getting the real thing (which they don't make. Why?).
Love the Hurst, very positive shifts. As far as a ****, I bought a flameball and love it. I tried 2 or 3 other types. Always some type of tradeoff. But the fameball rules :blueangel: :chevy
