I recently had the intermediate steering shaft out of the car and had to turn the wheel to get to the nut on the ujoint. I know for a fact that the wheel was put back to the original position that I started at. After this I got an alignment in which my steering wheel was set straight from before where it was slightly to the left. The steering wheel is perfectly straight now but I have gotten code c1288 while driving, 2 times in 2 weeks. Did I break the sensor by turning the wheel 180 degrees while disconnected? I have a new sensor and was wondering if that will fix the issue. Thanks.

I doubt you broke the sensor I turned mine more than that . You can find the SWPS center with a voltmeter. Search my threads I had a hell of a time with mine after a harmonic balancer replacement.
If the steering is off center it would throw a C1283 code and the VOM could easily fix that. The C1288 usually means the SWPS was move more than three turns from center and then threw the code. Mine has been that way for some time. Since I have the older SWPS I will try the CRC spray later this winter to see if that might be a solution and then blast it with air. Years ago, when I changed my alignment for autocrossing (-2.2 camber, etc) my steering wheel got 180 deg off, the C1283 code appeared. Using the VOM I was able to get it recentered and it lasted another 16 years.
