I have a c5 z06 lowered a bit on ‘cut’ stock bolts (no coil overs). I’m considering moving to a 19/19 wheel set up (street car only...no racing or auto cross). For a 19/19 set up, lot of guys seem to opt for 30 series tires (ie - 275/30/19 & 305/30/19, which yield overall diameters of 25.49” & 26.20”), which are somewhat close to stock diameters.
Which is fine, but...
Im wondering if I can safety do (or should do) those 19/19 wheels with 35 series tires (ie - 265/35/19 and 305/35/19; overall diameters 26.34/27.44”). I’m confident the rears will be fine, but I worry around 26.34” front in a 265 width...would there be rubbing?
My general interest in the 19s with a 35 series is that a “more-full” wheel well may look better and a meatier rear sidewalk may ride and perform better.
Any insights, experiences or pictures would be very much appreciated.
As neutron82 says it does depend on your wheel. There are guys running 315/30/18 with minimal* to no issues on the front with a stock z06 rear wheel thats 10.5" wide.
*by minimal I mean I have seen some people need to remove the front brake ducts to avoid rubbing at/near full steering lock.
Thank you for the prompt replies and good information. So, I suppose my follow up question then becomes: If I, like neutron82, want to run 275/35/19 up front and 305/35/19 rear, what is the "right wheel" (i.e. - what wheel widths/offsets do I need?)
I'm afraid I'll be of no help on that for several reasons, none of which you'd care to hear about or would do any good. I will say that putting a 19 on the front is not very common but someone will hopefully chime in to help. You may have luck with someone like Jason at getyourwheels.com for advice.
I'm running a 295/30/19 in the front. Plenty of people have run 305/315 IIRC, just need to make sure offset is good and you may have to be ok with a little poke.
Just read the whole post...lol. I was considering running a 275/35/19 when these were spent, but it's significantly taller and I know I will have issues rubbing at near/full lock. I might try it anyway...
