Default Bottom feeding question.

I hear (see) people discuss picking up air from down low to get cooler air into the engine. However, the road holds heat, so is going down low giving the engine warmer air? I mean heck, sometimes you can see the heat rising up from the road surface as you drive.

You are correct...the lower you pick up the air, the warmer it will usually be. However, sometimes the pavement keeps the air cool, like in the morning after the sun has risen, but before it has had a chance to warm up the pavement.

The reference is to pulling outside air which is normally cooler then the heated air from under the hood.

The bottom feeders work well I had a MTI setup I really liked however I live in north Florida where we have a rainey season. About a year and a half ago I was driveing on a major road when I was hit with a diluge I could only see the taillights in front and everyone was moving a couple of miles an hour when I took a quick dip into a low area and hydro'd a brand new H/C engine. The bottom feeder is only a couple of inches off the ground so if it rains pull over until it stops and the streets run off. I'm still sick everytime I think about it.

I've been through some pretty good storms myself the past two years with my Halltech Tric bottom breather with no problems to report.

Summer or winter the air is colder in front of the radiator below the shroud then in the engine compartment. Cold air = more power....

Well...I have the Halltech and with that when you drive your having air rushing in the filter...and its pulling air from the outside which is cooler than the air under your hood where the engine is.

So your getting colder air from outside...plus your getting the air rush hitting it.

A bottom breather is dangerous. It's slow speed in water that causes the hydroloc. The wheels cause a wake and low engine speed is under high vaccuum. Trust me my freind mine cost 11.5K and change and I was one of 5 that year.
