Hi folks, trying to help a friend who told me she needs to remove the ECM from her ‘03 Convertible. She referred to it as the ‘main brain’ of the car.
Just checking on the accuracy of terminology. Where is it located? I found some module accessed from one of the front wheel wells, but I’m not sure if that’s the one she wants to remove and have fixed.
Thanks!
The ECM is one of the brains not the main brain. There are something like 14 electronic modules controlling various aspects of the car. The EBCM, ESC and BCM are modules that control major functions of the car besides the power train. If you go over the number of diagnostic codes that could be presented on the C5 On Board Diagnostic Read Out powertrain codes make up 55% of the total. That remaining 45% are for all of the things that don't involve the ECM.
Yes, ECM (PCM) is the correct terminology and yes it resides to the rear of the right front tire...the access panel has maybe 8 screws...what is her issue and who told her it needs replacing ??...MOST are replaced unnecessarily !!!
