Because that's what the ARP instructions tell you to do!
That was my instructions back then from innovator west crank pulley(130lbs tq) when I purchased from them. I guess maybe they had problems and changed it. But I've had not a problem with 60k miles on it.
Is everybody using a stock crank pulley with an ARP bolt. Then I can see why, but my opinion if your using an aftermarket crank I just can't see why. But to each is owe. Not tell anybody whT to do just giving my experience.
I used the summit pulley puller and install alignment tool worked out great even pinned the crank while I was down there ! You torque must tighten with old factory bolt to 200-210 I did a 185-190 ish! back it out then and your pulley in now placed and or seated properly, put in your ARP or whichever bolt re torque to spec ! Then would be the time to have a look at your timing and or cam swaps oil pumps ,water pump and or seals as well ! New ac belt might wanna keep that in mind gotta have the a/c working top notch.
JMI why r u guys t torquing ARP bolt to 240. I did mine 15yrs ago and tq it down to 130. And I have a s/c with 1000hp. ??? Just wondering. Don't yell at me.
Just because that’s exactly what the instructions say to do. Lol. But hey. What do those mean anyway? Lol.
