2001 C5 corvette base. Doing plug swap during header install. it’s the front plug on the passenger side. plug came out fine no issues. well as i’m screwing it in it gets harder and harder to screw in and sticks out further. my question is. is this black buildup stopping the plug from going in or is it stripped somewhere? i haven’t tried to clean it up yet i’m just asking on here for help. here’s a picture of what it looks like.
What do the threads on the plug that came out look like?
honestly couldn’t tell ya. came out with no struggle and i tossed them like an idiot. i’m going to try a rethread kit since the plug clearly isn’t going in properly then if that doesn’t work i’m going to buy some 243s locally

Looking at the threads, looks like the brown color is some sort of debris in/on the threads (oil coke?)...before trying a rethread kit, I would use a tool called a spark plug thread chaser, (NOT A THREAD TAP as this tool cuts threads). And the thread chaser cleans the threads but does not cut the threads...
Use the spark plug thread chaser by hand, take your time and after applying that elbow-grease you may be good to go for installing the plug and torqueing it to specs.
Cheers,
Goose

thank you for the input. i’m pretty sure the spark plug is cross threading or something. it’s easy going in until about 10 or 15 passes right with my socket wrench then it’s very tight and hard getting it screwed down. i’ll buy both thread chaser and a rethread kit and see if either it works
threads on head look striped on the left side of pic,, get a thread chaser.. lots of sticky oil and run a tap through it.
sticky oil like cam lube or something along that line

got it to seat all the way down with the chaser there was a lot of buildup
