Default Steering Colun Lock Issues

C5 Techs,

I had posted last year regarding my Steering Column Lock issues. I installed the LMC5 in the BCM last summer and the problem went away. I was not getting the Remove Key for 10 Seconds Error Code Message. I went to start up my car to let it run last week and the battery had died (just purchased a battery last year). Jump the battery and now I am gettting all kinds of error codes. I got the Variable Speed Error Code and now I'm getting Steering Column Lock Error Code Now. The car is not stopping when I exceed 2 mph. The Column is not locked, I can drive the car and steer with no problems. Can you tell me what could be some things that I can trouble shoot. The notifications are annoying. Thanks in advance.

Just jump starting the car will cause error codes because battery voltage is not high enough, I would put the battery on a charger and have it load tested at an auto parts store.

Clear all of the codes and drive it.

mmartinez, I checked the battery it is emitting 13.4 volts. I've looked at videos on clearing the codes. My DIC is not clearing the codes. When, I start the car the Service Column Lock comes on. Once I hit the reset button it goes away until I cut the car off, then it will show again until i take the key out. Any other suggestions?

Is the voltage you reading on the cars voltmeter or with a multimeter across the battery, and 13.4 volts is with the car running correct? I have corrected similar problems just by disconnecting the battery and putting a charger on it, I suggest you try that, good luck.

I've cleared codes and issues by disconnecting, charging, and reconnecting the battery. Have read of others removing the battery, and jumping the cables together to clear some flags. Have not tried that myself yet.

MMartinez, thank you! I pulled the battery and got it tested and charged and all the codes disappeared. Thanks again

Your Welcome, glad to hear you've cleared your codes, my 97 just started with the pull key wait ten seconds crap, and the 2mph cutoff, going to disconnect and charge the battery and hope it clears, luckily no service column lock message.

Dreaded column lock malfunctioned on me in the parking lot of a shop, I thought I might have to find another way home, then I jacked it a few times and it reset! Whew
