Default Clutch Bucking

I was on my way home tonight in my 99 daily. A ZL1 camaro had been with me across 3 main highways and we finally got a chance to unwind, so we did. I don't know what they make - sure he beat me 343-ish rwhp stockish LS1, but not by what I would want or expect with a car with that RPO code. It was still cool and a good kick-off to the year.

Problem though. I shifted to 3 at 80 and was less smooth than abrupt. I never abuse my cars much but it looks like I did here.

Something must have let go. The car has a Macleod RST. I can shift without issue. Clutch works without issue. But when it is in any gear and I transition on or off the gas, the clutch bucks. Gas on low.... bucks once when I start the gas and is fine so long as I stay driving. And then if I let off the gas it bucks that one time again and it fine until I switch to gas again.

In my mind... a spring? One of the clutches let go? Not sure. Unfortunately, the Z is still stripped up on the jaxx or I'd have checked it tonight.

Why are you so sure it’s the clutch? Once the clutch is engaged I’ve never hear of a bucking issue, it would just be chatter upon engagement.

I’d be more likely to suspect a broken mount somewhere or and drive like issue. Maybe rear diff or axles.

it just dosnt sound like a clutch symptom to me, especially because your clutch is designed for much more power and abuse than it sounds like u put it through.

Noise location is from the clutch area / bellhousing when I'm in the car. There is also a noise in the same area with clutch and gas disengaged when I go to first. But without verifying, you're right, it could be anything. Ruptured six shooter? Mount?

You have a six shooter TT coupler??? Ide start right there!

They are WELL KNOWN to Grenade! I thought all C5 owners knew that they were horrible!

Pop the TT out and see if that coupler is destroyed!

Thoughts????

Bill

Unless you are making GOBS of power, a new OEM GM coupler will work excellent! Im making 450 RWHP on stock couplers.

The car had been SC with 500rw. Never an issue. Is now NA again and the only mods were Springs and Straub trunions. Heads and cam remain stock.

Issue was much less notable this morning. Clutch feels to work fine. Transmission feels to work fine. The bucking noise is gone, but the feel is very slight. Yesterday it was a punch. With clutch in, engine idle, car stopped or moving, when I shift to 1 from wherever I was, there is a noise which sounds to be up front like something loose.

Coupler could be. Never lost one before.

Any videos with audio exist of what that would be?

I'm stuck because I work both days this weekend and all next week. Thankfully, I can probably steal my gf's car since she's a teacher and school has been closed.

Agreed Bill. That’d be my first thought as well.
