Soooo, ToplessTexan..... What do you recommend for a t/c with 3.73's? My car is basically stock now (see my sig) but I'm looking into a supercharger a little ways down the road. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I will still look for someone in my area with 3.73's and t/c setup for a sample ride before I plunk down my money. Thanks!

Depends a lot on what you want out of it. The ST3500 is a no brainer for a daily driver that likes to see the dragstrip. You'll need tire. It's what I should have done. Instead I opted for the SY3500 and it's fine on the street but not enough at the track, also needs tire. (Best '60 on runflats so far is 1.868. ) If I was sticking with a street racing setup like this, I'd look at the SY4000 too. There's at least one of those on the boards, somebody in Tulsa IIRC. The potential supercharger complicates things as you'll likely want a converter with less shift extension than you would if you were NA, maybe something like the PYE3600. Of course, if you're into autox and the like, these are probably all wrong and a lower stall would be better. Like I said, it depends on how you want to use the car.

As far as finding a 3.73 car to drive, it'll be harder than you think. The converter is probably more important to evaluate anyway and gear differences are easier to mimic. Don't forget about similarly equipped F-bodies which might be a little easier to find.

It's also worth a visit to LS1Tech.com's Drivetrain section. Lots of good info there, Patrick G's posts are usually full of good insights.

Good luck. :)

Kurt, I fully intend on having programming to better adjust the shifting and lockup conditions. I am just pleased as in GA we are soon going to a "no custome programming" inspection for tag inspections. So I can put my car back to stock and at least get it to and from the test site before re-loading the custome programming back in.

Be sure to pass on to Gary Talac your new insights of the ST3500 vrs the SY3500. Both Mitch C and Redgar have also installed the ST3500 with 3.73's.

To dadsdream - Mitch C is in New York City - not real far away and he has what you want to try. Nice guy - give him an email and he will probably be glad to give you a drive. Otherwise the forum has a neighbor finder - use it and call some people.

Topless,

Thanks for all the advice. Basically, my car is *mostly* street driven. May see the track a coupla times a year (wife willing) I'm just looking for a real strong street car, something with plenty of GO!! The s/c just happens to be an auto part I've LUSTED after since my Mustang days.

Would you still recommend the ST3500 with 3.73's & s/c given my comments above?

MC98 has offered a ride in his car once he returns to NY, hopefully I'll get some first-hand insights as to how the Vette runs with 3.73's & t/c.

Thanks to all that have been so helpful.

From what Mitch has told me so far - after your test ride you will forget about a SC and you will be reaching for Bigger seat belts and "Depends".

The SC's are more of a high risk option than heads and cam. And I always felt they were for high reving 4 & 6 bangers - not V8 musle. I got a Vette because I wanted V8 grunt. I had a porsche - sounded like a 2 cycle mortor cycle compared to a Vette. Without a good gear box and a turbo, they are Volkswagans.

You'll see for your self. Don't pass up Mitch's generous offer.

Hey KingTut,

I'm really looking forward to gettin' a ride with Mitch. I know what you're saying with respect to no torque/slow torque 4 & 6 bangers.... But I've been reading up on s/c's for a LONG TIME. I'd really like to get one. Like anything we do to our cars, it's not any one part that makes a difference, it's the combination and tuning.

I absolutely shudder at the thought of tearing into a perfectly good motor to install heads & a cam, but I can justify the *bolt-on* variety of modifications.

I'm sure I will be totally impressed with Mitch's car, but like all the mod's I've done to my cars over the years - You just kinda get used to it and want even MORE!!!! Of course my wife and family obilgations will keep me "grounded" in terms of what I will spend. :cry

Take care!

I probably wouldn't do the ST with a S/C. Of course if you do the ST you might not feel the need for the S/C anymore. :) Did you get any additional recommendations from LS1Tech.com? Or Yank? I'm a NA guy so don't take my advice when it comes to S/C.

The only thing I can comment on is that the ST will get you out of the hole, I don't think a S/C can do that!
