Default Wheel Hub Assemblies

Are wheel hub assemblies rebuildable or good for parts? I see a lot of used ones listed for sale on Ebay. I just replaced mine and don't want to just throw them away if they can still be used for something. Thanks!

Don't think so, if they were good for that I think there would be a core charge so you return them

That's what I figured but it seems a lot of people are selling used ones. I am not really sure why anyone would want to go through all of the trouble to install a used one not knowing how long it would last. Thanks for the response.

This discussion brought to mind, a question that I've had for a while. What holds the hub assemblies together? Are there snap rings, somewhere within the "bowels" of the hub, that can be accessed, or is there some sort of "rolled over lip" of metal, that retains the bearings, therefore making the hub unable to be dis-assembled"?

I stumbled on to a "how to" video, several months back, that discussed the rear hubs for the Jaguar XF. On that particular vehicle, there's a large snap ring that holds the bearings in place, so if you were so inclined, the bearings could be replaced, or I'm thinking that maybe even having the dust shields removed, and the bearings simply re-packed with grease, then re-installed.

on the flip side someone might rather replace them with a used low mile oem bearing that was made in the usa as opposed to a cheap chinese bearing that may fail in months... I replaced mine about a year ago just because and I searched around and was able to find some nos oem usa bearings for a pretty good price

I put the cheap Chinese hubs on about 5 years and 30k miles ago. No problems.
I would be more concerned about a used low mile hub. Grease just sitting there drying out for 20 years
