I have a 98 base c5 with headers and am about to put a cam in it.
Can I tune on stock 98 ecu? Do I need to do anything for fueling or will my stock pump and injectors be okay?
If you are only putting a cam and headers in and not doing an intake manifold, throttle body, and ported / aftermarket heads, you will be completely fine with you stock injectors and fuel pump. And you will definitely need to get a tune, and preferably a dyno tune, to get the appropriate f/a ratio. You will also need to "tune out" codes for the cats and AIR system being removed. And probably more.... I'm definitely not a tuner and there are those in here far more versed on the tuning aspect.
What cam are you putting in? And are you sticking with your ls1 heads?
Tune the stock ECU. Yes
Stock fuel pump be OK. Probably
Need bigger injectors. Depends on the size of the cam. Best bet is post the specs of the cam and ask for someone with similar specs to voice their experiences.
I'd think about upgrading the fueling. You don't want to be at the upper end of the duty cycle of the stock stuff for long, although it has been done many a time..
