Default Melling dampener bracket with countersunk thrust plate??

I'm beginning to put 99 back together after swapping the cam and am trying to do all the little things right. I did want to add the LS2 dampener which I have bought. I also just purchased a new thrust plate. The new thrust plate has countersunk bolt holes. My question is: can I still mount the dampener bracket on top of the thrust plate as instructed and not have to worry about the countersunk bolt holes beneath?

I would think that you'd be OK, but if not, maybe you could flip the retainer plate around, and have the countersunk holes facing the block?

you can't flip the retainer plate, it has an oring seal on the backside... I have never seen a bracket like the op has... if you use it you won't be able to use the torx bolts where the bracket attaches, you would have to try the original retainer bolts in those areas and also make sure you have clearance between those bolts and the cam sprocket before you put everything back together

Can't you just drill and tap the block for the chain dampener?

If it's what I think it is, it's either very similar to the one I installed, or very similar to it. The one I have is made by Trick Flow. I installed mine, about 4 years ago, when I installed an ATI balancer, and an LS2 timing chain, "while I was in there". But it was long enough ago, that I don't remember exactly what it looked like....

IIRC, the chain damper that was OE, "way back when", and the most currently available one, have a different mounting hole spacing, hence the need for the adapter bracket.

PDub, is your block drilled and tapped already but wrong spacing for the LS2 dampener?

If that's the case you can use the RDE Fab dampener. It will fit with no adapters or modifications.

That's true. I knew about that "special" dampener, back when I replaced the balancer on my car, but for some reason, maybe the parts were still "under development", I didn't use it, and went with the Trick Flow adapter, instead.

I've been trying to accumulate parts for my cam swap project in my '01. From everything that I've found, the holes were not drilled and tapped until 2002. Everything before that you have to drill and tap, or use the bracket. I've sent a message to RDE to see if they can confirm this. I'd rather just put the damper on instead of an adapter bracket and the damper.

If I do end up going with the bracket, I think I'm going to order the flush-bolt style cam thrust plate instead of the countersunk holes now that I've seen pictures of how it interacts.
