Hi, i own a 1998 corvette and is searching for a emc (19332289). The car is very Hard to start and The enginelight is on. My local workshop says its probably the emc... But its nowhere to be found... What can i do? Any ideas?
First off WELCOME to the Forum !!...do you mean ECM (Engine Control Module) ??...what kind of diagnostics did your shop perform ??...you can pull the "codes" through the DIC if you don't have a scan tool or maybe you have it written down...when you say "hard to start" do you mean it doesn't "turn over" or it turns over and cranks but takes some time to start ??...even with a code it still may require some diagnostics to figure out...you can NOT change parts just based on a code !!
Ken, the P0342 is a cam position sensor DTC and its most likely the cause of the car being hard to start...the sensor is located behind the intake manifold and with that code I have no idea of why the shop said you need a new engine computer...the P1516 is related to the throttle control system !!
The "C" codes are the current ones, "H" codes occurred also in the past. The B 037 and 0446 are HVAC actuator problems and not engine, the P042 and 1516 are engine management codes. The P0342 is a CMO sensor and the 1516 is the TAC module problem-most likely the hard start problem. The C5 is a drive by wire (DBW) engine and (overly simplified version) the gas pedal send a signal to the TAC module to open and close the Throttle body. The throttle control signal does not correspond to the actual signal being sent. Have them check on the condition of the TAC module to start with. When the gas pedal module goes bad the car usually will not start.
Look at my original post. The thread start
Emc 19332289
How do you know 100% you need an engine computer ??...you have a cam sensor DTC..I don’t think your shop is up on diagnostics...FEW are !!...ask them HOW they came to that diagnosis and what was checked...I’d like to hear it !!

I believe the ‘98 PCM’s are scarce as hens teeth and some send theirs in for repair...I think you should let that shop know that if it’s replaced and doesn’t fix the problem they will be paying for it and not you !!...good luck !!
