Re: CODE- P 1870 HC....Please help! (sweetcharity)
P1870 is transmission component slipping, if you have the earlier version of LS1 edit when your gear was scaled you may get this code. I think ver 1.1 fixed this. It could also be something in the trans, the code sets when the PCM sees too much difference in engine RPM/output speed with the tcc locked.
Re: CODE- P 1870 HC....Please help! (sweetcharity)
I'd only be looking at programming problems if you've done a gear swap. If you haven't it's likely to be a real mechanical issue. Don't forget about checking fluid level though.
The hard shifting is expected with this code as the PCM commands max line pressure when it sets. It will also not command TCC lockup. A little alarming if not expected but not harmful.
If you do a search for P1870 threads you'll find tons of info, mostly related to the code showing up after gear swaps.

Topless thanks for getting in here. This all is making sense as far what has taken place so far. How about the fact that after letting it sit for 30 minutes it shifted normal again?
Re: CODE- P 1870 HC....Please help! (sweetcharity)
Did you do your programming or did your installer? As kp mentioned, LS1-Edit prior to v1.1 released 8/10/02 didn't get gear scaling correct (the exceptions being some beta versions from about a week before that which were not widely distributed.)
Has your car recently visited the dealer for service?
Re: CODE- P 1870 HC....Please help! (ToplessTexan)
No the shop that did the work did the tuning. This was only about 500 miles ago. I had a 125 mile ride home from the shop and also an additional 375 miles without this showing before! They did the changes for the 3:42 gears, tran line press, desired shift time, torque red. during up shift, normal shift speed, normal TCC engage speed (+10MPH) and TCC clutch WOT Engage (115, release 110) and soem abuse mode changes also. I suppose I will be tlaking to them first thing tomorrow AM. Will it be fine to drive it 125 miles to their shop?? or should I truck it :( Oh and no dealer visits either. Car has 2800 miles on it, mods at 2300 miles.
Yes programming, the car can be driven without harm!
:yesnod:
If one were to drive over 65 one might be able to avoid throwing the code. (That probably depends on exactly how the test is implemented, whether the 65 MPH really means a vehicle speed or output shaft speed or some other indicator.) Also, you can clear it while you're driving if you're coordinated enough. :)

Thanks so much for the replies and info!! First problem I have had so it has me a bit frazzeled to say the least. But seems as if a trip back to the tuner is the key. Once again thanks guys...
