Default Climate Control Panel Display Light GONE DARK.

Hey All,
The blue light display on the Climate Control Panel on my 1998 C5 has gotten so dim I can't even see it at night. All the controls such as temperature, blower speed and mode are working as are the button lights. I've found several companies that will rebuild the unit for between $100 and $150 or sell me a new unit for $275 - $325 plus my old unit. Can you suggest how I should proceed, rebuild or new and who you might recommend for the repair/replacement?
Thanks,
David

It's simple and common. There are small resistors that just need to be resoldered. However, I can guarantee you that after you take the unit out and it gets handled, that some of the OE bulb filaments for the buttons will fail. So do yourself a favor and have a reputable person rebuild the unit and do an LED conversion.

I am giving you the link to Travis at vettetronics. He is very reputable and has a great warranty. A competitor of his submarined his account, and I believe he has it straightened. If you email him, tell him I said hello.

Hey Ed, Great information and much appreciated. Looks like a total rebuild is the way to go and I hadn't really considered an LED conversion but will now. Gonna reach out to Travis tomorrow and will give him your regards. Thanks again!

No Problem, I actually talked to him tonight. Last year I had a problem with a board in mine and he knew exactly what was up. I also had him replace the bulbs. He does bulbs and led's. He also uses correct bulbs - there is a lot of bad info out there in what miniature bulbs to buy. Too many people are using bulbs that draw too much current.

His work is excellent, guaranteed and quick turn around.

I just returned from a same day trip to Alton, IL where Travis Wolfe with vettetronics rebuilt my Climate Control Display. He replaced all of the factory incandescent bulbs with top-quality blue LEDs resulting in terrific button lighting and a super easy to read display. Finally!

Travis charged me less than 1/3 of the dealer estimate and less than 1/2 of a local garage estimate. He also provides a lifetime warranty. He's a very laid back and likable guy as well. You can find vettetronics on Ebay if you want to contact him.

Thanks again, Ed Ramberger for the referral. You saved me some serious bucks!

David, I am glad it all worked out for you! I knew if you contacted Travis, you would be happy. Thank you for the resolution and enjoy the new lighting!
