It is likely the switch at the door. Mine is doing the same thing and if you don't hit just the right spot on the switch it doesn't work. The relay should be fine if it works with the fob and passenger side switch.
So BigGun is there a way of repairing the touch pad or replacing the whole assembly is the only solution?

I haven't took it apart yet so I don't know what it looks like inside. The assembly is easy to replace but finding the right one can be tricky. You have to get one that matches the options on the car.
