Default Horn Wheel Pad Problem

Anti Theft horn works, but not on wheel pad. Any suggestions on diagnostics?

Thanks, but how can I confirm that's the problem before I go down that path?

Since the anti-theft horn works, we know the relay and fuse are both good, as is at least a considerable amount of the wiring. I have seen threads here and elsewhere indicating connectors in the steering column can cause similar effects.
This thread has a wiring diagram: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...n-circuit.html

Thanks, but I need a good diagnostic procedure. I don't want to go on an Easter egg hunt and incur additional cost or problems. I have the SM, but it is very cryptic for me.
Please additional help here, thanks.

So neither side of the membrane works, which would imply both side are open. What are the odds of that? If it's an air spacer inside is seems that could fail, but the horn would be on all the time. How would both sides of the membrane fail, so that they can't close the circuit? I also tried using the horn while turning the wheel in both directions.

I removed the air bag and checked the continuity of the horn membrane switch and it was good on both sides, so that seems to eliminate that piece as being bad.
Please advise on what to check next thanks.

My horn is also inop I discovered a few weeks ago and the horn works with the panic button so I know 95% of the circuit is ok !!...I’m moving to Florida soon and was going to do a YouTube video on the diagnostics when I’m down there because I’ll have more time and I’ll be retired so if you can wait till then...LOL !!

I believe the horn relay, fuse and horn are good because the horn blows when the anti theft is triggered. Membrane switch is also good with the continuity check.
What else to check?

Not getting much help on this?? I think the problem might be in the slip ring connection. Please comment.

I measured the resistance between the black wire spade connector to ground. I thought it should have been about 0 ohms but I saw 600 to 1.7K with a slight wheel movement
This seems suspicious.

Wish I had more info to offer. Mine was dead, but was a combination of a fuse and the membrane, and on mine the membrane was shorted, leading to the fuse issue. That continuity does seem out of whack. What ground point did you use for the check?

So thinking a had a poor ground path, I was going to use the jumper wire to ground (alternator) and reconnected the battery. To my surprise I tested the horn before I connected the ground wire to ground and it worked! The only thing I had ever disconnected was the red spring wire from the membrane. How did that fix the problem?

I removed the jumper and reinstalled the airbag. The best way is to put in the screws first and then snap it into the steering wheel. When I turn the car on to check any codes,it cane up with "SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM" and "SERVICE ACTIVE HNDLG". I also had DIC codes:C1255H, C1284C, C1286C.

Also I previously I had a check engine light P1416HC that didn't show up. I wonder what set those codes.

Anyway I reset all codes and took it out for a test drive. No warning messages, no codes returned and the horn is working! I'm not sure I fixed anything, but it's working for now.
