Can a failing Temperature Sensor or Air Temperature Intake Sensor cause an increase of engine RPM? There are no other issues - engine temperature - normal, starts - fine, runs great.
Ok.. Sounds good.. Old fashioned vacuum leak, dirty throttle body, normal maint stuff could cause an erratic idle.
If you are early 2003 or older, you also have a replaceable fuel filter - it is also the fuel pressure regulator as well, so it's important
to service regularly. MAF sensor could be dirty too... Just trying to go thru what would cause this

Glad you fixed your issue but yes it can. I broke off my Coolant Temp Sensor on the left side head when doing a header install at my brothers house and figured I could just drive it back home. Albeit my issue was infrequent but it caused the car to accelerate on it's own and rev with the clutch in. After I replaced that sensor it never did it again. Scary drive home.
