Default Do Plug Wires Need to be the Same Length?

I never thought about it before. Do plug wires need to be the same length for all eight?

I ask because I need to order a custom set for the remote mounted coils on my '03. If I go all the same length I'll end up with a lot of extra wire to route safely and out of the way. Or if it does not matter critically then I can get them custom sized to run very cleanly.

On my '99 I made them different lengths with a variance at most of maybe 4 to 6 inches. I have the record saved somewhere. I ran it that way with boost for a few years without identifying any issue.

Helped a buddy relocate the coils into the fenders of his C5. Made our own plug wires all custom lengths. The car has been running this way for at least 3 years with no engine issues.

Just make sure you use suppressed wires and you'll be fine. Most wires are suppressed. You want to stay away from race-only wire that has just a few ohms resistance per foot. It sounds good in theory because there is more energy available for the spark, but there's a catch. The catch is these wires will generate radio interference that will screw with your electronics - both the computer and the radio. So go with a modern wire for street cars. Magnacor is my favorite, although Taylor and Accel are both good too.
