Out of the blue yesterday, the service abs/traction control flashed across the DIC of my 2002 convertible. I went for a 45 minute cruise and then pulled in the driveway and shut the car off to do some cleaning. When I restarted the car, that is when the service abs/traction control appeared. I shut the car off and let it sit for a while and then started it back up. Still had the message. I then decided to pull the codes. The only one was C1214. From what I have researched so far, this is likely caused by a faulty relay or bad solder joints at the relay of the EBCM. I unhooked the negative battery cable this morning and hooked it back up a couple of hours later. The message seems to be gone for now but I have a feeling it will come back. I cleared the code C1214 in the DIC. I am guessing that maybe the relay or solder joints are on their way out. Am I going in the right direction or is there something easier I might try first? I'll probably wait to see how long before the code comes back before digging deeper. I probably won't be in any hurry to remove the EBCM if that is what it is. Way too hot outside at the moment. Thanks in advance.
I sent one Monday from a Cadillac to be repaired at ABSFixer https://www.absfixer.com/. All you send in is the electronics half that is held with a few small screws so the half with the brake lines stays attached in the car.
ABSFixer is a possibility. If the trouble code shows up again, I am thinking about opening up the EBCM and re-soldering the pins to the relay. I saw where that seemed to fix issue in a few cases. If that doesn't do it, I might contact them. Thanks.
Just a follow up on the outcome. I did end up getting the C1214 code again and it wouldn't clear. I decided to ship the EBCM off to ABSFixer. Removing EBCM was a bit tricky. Seemed to go much better putting it back on. End result is no more C1214. All seems to be well again.
