I did a search but didn;t find all that much. I can't afford the heads right now and it seems people have been getting retty decent results by just changing the cam. So my question is what else do I need besides the cam. I would be going with a mild as close to stock driveabiltiy/idle as possible. What would your recommendations be for the cam as well as what else I need? Happy Thanksgiving guys
Re: What all is needed for a cam only install? (Joe C5 Coupe)
You're going to need to change the valve springs. Also, replace the crank snout bolt. In most instances people pull the heads so there is no issue of lifters dropping into the motor. Then you'll need new head bolts and gaskets. Also, antifreeze and oil.
Hardened push rods are a good idea while you're in there too.

Cam
Comp Cam 918s (use stock retainers) or Isky 295-Ds (the ultimate drop in single spring)
hardened 7.400" Pushrods
Timing Cover Seal
Crank Seal
Upgrade to a Katech or ARE oil pump for boosted oil pressure :)
JWIS timing chain and Cloyes gears
New CrankShaft bolt
ASP pulley while you're in there
This is a bullet proof setup.

Why the head bolts? LS1 cam can be swapped w/o head removal.
