Replacing Power Steering Pressure Hose
Used a turkey basting syringe to get the power steering fluid out of the reservoir.
Raised the front up and pulled the drivers wheel for access to rack lines.
Had to remove the rack return fitting to get to the pressure fitting, using a 18mm
flare nut wrench for both.
The 5/8" hex at the Pump was the main problem.
First, I couldn't get a wrench on it, so I got a fine tooth hacksaw blade in there and cut the
metal line below the nut. Took about 15 min and then used a 5/8" deep well socket and
ratchet to remove it.
Now come time to install the new one! Hose was identical to the old one so I knew I needed something
to use on the pump fitting.
Had an old Harbor Freight 5/8" combination wrench and I cut a 7/16" slot in the box end and trimmed
the open end.
Installed the rack fitting loosely, and on to the pump fitting.
The modded wrench worked great. Fittings don't need to be super tight, as they have O-Rings.
If it hadn't worked, I guess I would have had a major disassembly job to get to it.
