A few days ago a squeak started coming from the steering column. At first I thought it might be something rubbing right behind the steering wheel. It occurs primarily when the steering wheel turns to the right from the 12 oclock position to about 7 oclock. There is no squeak between the 7 and 12 oclock positions.
From inside it sounds like the squeak is right behind the steering wheel at the junction to the column, but this isn't the case. It's definitely coming from inside the engine compartment. I tried to pinpoint it but I can't turn the wheel from that far away. I will have to wait for the wife to get home.
Is this most likely at the gear box?
Anybody else ever have a similar problem?
