Steering rack/ Active Handling woes
Hoping to have some insight into where I went wrong. The active handling warming up message is coming up, and the AH is kicking in quickly on sharp bends or if I move the wheel back and forth too quickly(almost like a slalom but not nearly as aggressive) I did a lot of research before replacing my rack myself due to a massive seal leak. In my research, the number one issue is the steering wheel is being turned when disconnected. I will assure you this did NOT happen, I secured the steering wheel with a ratchet strap to the seat frame, it 100% did not move a millimeter. My DIC buttons all do not work, so no, I haven't pulled the codes if there are any, I will attempt to do that with the torque app tonight to see if they show on that.
This is my only thought- I swapped the tire rods overs and counted the threads to get them close when I put everything back tother, the steering wheel was off a little to the left, but nothing that alarmed me. I had the car aligned to recenter the wheel after completed.
So if my thought process is correct, the rack and wheel are somehow out of sync, but I KNOW the wheel did not move. The rack is supposedly "centered" from the manufacture, but there was nothing securing the input shaft on the rack, so I guess it is entirely plausible it was not actually centered? is there anything else I am missing here?
I have a Chinese tech 2 on order, I need to delete TPMS and wanted one anyway, so I am hoping that with that tool(I know you can check SWPS via the blue wire? 2.5V centered) but I really do not believe that is the issue...so I guess the question is with a tech 2 will I be able to see if the rack is not reporting centered?
Will this be as easy as finding the center(rack) with the tech 2 and then reconnecting the intermediate shaft, then realigning the car? Or is there a plausibility that maybe this is an internal issue with the reman rack?
Sorry, this seems like rambling, but I keep going over and over again where I went wrong, and just need a little help!
In all honestly, I give two craps about AH, and 9/10 times I turn it off, but I just want it to be right if I ever sell the car or someone else needs to drive it...thanks!
